We the undersigned fully endorse the March for a Clean Energy Revolution that will occur in Philadelphia on July 24, 2016.
We will support thousands of people in Philadelphia, on the eve of the Democratic National Convention, to demand that we end our reliance upon polluting fossil fuels and dirty energy and move to a truly clean, renewable energy future for our nation.
Over the past decade, Pennsylvanians have experienced first-hand the adverse impacts of intensive fracking and its related operations. Families and workers alike have been sickened and residents have seen their property values diminished and, their land, water, air polluted and poisoned. Philadelphia is pummeled with environmental injustices related to the fossil fuel industry, including being home to a refinery that is the largest single consumer of Bakken shale oil.
Across the country, communities have experienced the devastating impacts of drilling and fracking for oil and gas and the pipelines, oil trains and other infrastructure projects that come with the fossil fuel industry.
We also know that the majority of Americans don’t support fracking. According to a March 2016 Gallup poll, 51% of Americans oppose fracking. People are increasingly aware of the growing body of evidence, which shows fracking poses a massive threat to our climate, water, air, health, and communities We listen to our constituents and we have heard their concerns. It is time to lend our voice in support of their aspirations. That is why we support the March for a Clean Energy Revolution.
Climate change presents humankind with an unprecedented challenge and poses a threat to life, as we know it, on this planet. We can’t achieve our nation’s legal commitment if we continue to rely on fossil fuels.
Now, more than ever, it is imperative that we act to keep the vast majority of fossil fuels in the ground. The time has now come to fully embrace the rapid development of sustainable energy and energy efficiency and, in doing so, enjoy the benefits accorded to both our health and the creation of millions of new jobs that will strengthen our economy. We owe this to our citizens and to the future generations yet to come.
With the eyes of the world on Philadelphia, now is the time for us to come together to demonstrate our commitment to the health, safety and welfare of the American people.
